1. Who we are
StudyWell is operated by Callwell ("we", "us", "our"). Callwell is the data controller for personal data processed through the StudyWell application and website. You can contact us at hello@callwel.us.
2. Personal data we collect
- Account data: name, email address, password (hashed), education level, school.
- Profile data: username, avatar, bio, favourite subject, visibility preferences.
- Content you create: notes, flashcards, homework problems, planner tasks, lecture transcripts, chat messages with friends.
- Usage and telemetry: feature usage counters, study session statistics, achievements, device and browser metadata, IP address, log data.
- Support communications you send to us.
3. Why we process your data and legal basis
- Provide the service (account creation, hosting your content, AI-assisted features) — performance of our contract with you.
- Security and fraud prevention — legitimate interests in keeping the service safe.
- Product analytics and improvement — legitimate interests in improving StudyWell.
- Customer support — performance of contract and legitimate interests.
- Legal compliance — to comply with applicable laws.
4. Who we share data with
- Service providers / subprocessors: cloud hosting, database, authentication, email, analytics, and AI model providers acting on our instructions.
- Stripe (payment processor): Stripe handles payments, subscription billing, tax calculation, invoicing, and refund processing on our behalf. Stripe is an independent controller for the payment data it collects.
- Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where necessary.
- Authorities where required by law.
5. International transfers
Where we transfer personal data outside your jurisdiction (for example to service providers located in the United States), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
6. Data retention
We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When data is no longer needed it is deleted or anonymised.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. EU/UK users may lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, email hello@callwel.us. We respond within one month.
8. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on user data to protect personal information.
9. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary to run the service (authentication, session, security). We may also use limited analytics cookies to understand how the product is used. You can manage cookies in your browser settings.
10. Changes
We may update this notice from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email.
